Air travel within New Zealand
If you are located within New Zealand but outside of Auckland, you can fly into Auckland domestic terminal at very reasonable prices. Competition among local carriers (e.g. Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Pacific Blue, Virgin Blue) is strong and fares are very competitive. As of May 2009 most fares range between $NZD100 -150 for a roundtrip economy ticket.
Air travel from Australasia
Auckland has international air connections and direct flights to all major Australian and Pacific cities offering ease of access for international delegates. A two and a half hour flight from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, it will be easy for Australian delegates to travel to Auckland. Competition among international carriers (e.g. Air New Zealand, Qantas, Emirates, Pacific Blue, LAN, etc.) means the difference between travel to New Zealand and equivalent travel within Australia is not significant. As of May 2009 most fares range between $AUS250 -450 for a roundtrip ticket.
For delegates from the Pacific, competition among international carriers (e.g. Air New Zealand, Qantas, Air Pacific, Air China, LAN, United, etc.) means fares remain competitive. As of May 2009, fares generally range between NZD$700 -$1,200 for a roundtrip ticket.
Requirements for International Visitors entering New Zealand
All overseas visitors are required to have a valid passport and, with the exception of delegates from visa-free countries, are required to have the appropriate visa. For information on obtaining a visa, including necessary funds and health requirements, please visit: www.immigration.govt.nz. We suggest that you allow for a minimum of 2 months to have your visa processed by Immigration New Zealand or the applicable New Zealand embassy or consulate in your country of residence.
Letters of Invitation
Do you need a letter of invitation before you can receive a visa to visit New Zealand? If you do require such a letter, you must first register for and pay all applicable registration fees. Once all fees have been paid, an email requesting a letter of invitation should be sent to the conference organiser. The Centre for Continuing Education and The University of Auckland bears no legal responsibility for any visiting conference delegate.
Medical Insurance
If you are visiting New Zealand and have an accident, you will be glad to know that all visitors are covered by the Accident Compensation Scheme, which means the public health system will cover the costs of your treatment. However many other medical services are not free to visitors, therefore we suggest you arrange medical insurance before traveling to New Zealand.
Auckland's Climate and Weather
Auckland's climate falls into the subtropical zone, and December is one of the warmest months of the year with temperatures that average between 20-30 Celsius. However, come prepared for changes in weather and temperature, especially if you will be doing any outdoors activities. A raincoat and/or umbrella is a must!
